Ausgehend vom Individuum erforscht Basma al-Sharif das Verhältnis des Menschen zu (politischer) Geschichte und kollektiver Erinnerung. Dabei entsteht eine Spannung zwischen dem persönlichen Erleben und äusseren Umständen, die sich der Kontrolle des Einzelnen entziehen. Zugleich überwindet sie in der Verwebung von individueller Geschichte und geopolitischen Ereignissen diesen Gegensatz und fragt nach der menschlichen Verfassung im Verhältnis zu verschiedenen Landschaften, Geografien und globalen Ereignissen.
Departing from the individual, Basma al-Sharif explores the human relationship to (political) history and collective memory. This creates a tension between personal experience and external circumstances that are beyond the control of the individual. At the same time, by interweaving individual history and geopolitical events, she overcomes this contrast and questions the human condition in relation to different landscapes, geographies and global events.
