ILLATURAS: An Embroidery Gathering — Miniatures of Desire

| Photobastei | 3. Stock, Zurich (CH) |
Spend an afternoon in good company, learning about a living tradition and making something small and meaningful with your own hands.
Sol Marinucci will open with a talk introducing ILLATURAS, a long-term collaboration with artisans across Latin America. Rooted in Andean traditions, the project explores miniatures as vessels of desire, memory, and care. The talk weaves together stories, voices, and perspectives from the artisans involved, offering a glimpse into the living worlds behind these small objects.
You will also encounter part of the traveling collection: over 100 handcrafted miniatures from Argentina, Bolivia, and Mexico — made in embroidery, ceramics, jewelry, wood, metal, and more.
Then we move to a collective embroidery table. In a relaxed, open setting, you’re invited to create your own small embroidered piece — or simply explore the materials at your own pace. No experience is needed, and all materials are provided. The space is open and gently held, without formal instruction or pressure to make anything «right».
It’s about slowing down, being present, and letting something take shape.
This is for anyone curious about textile traditions, handcraft, or simply making something with their hands alongside others. (Here you’ll find pictures of the last time we did

Sol Marinucci is a textile designer, artist, and cultural researcher based in the Argentine Andes. Her work explores craft as a living practice shaped by memory, territory, and collective imagination — rooted in long-term collaborations with artisan communities from Latin America. For more than a decade, she has approached embroidery as a poetic gesture: a hand-language through which memory, desire, and imagination take form. Through community-based processes and poetic documentation, she creates spaces where making becomes a way of connecting — with materials, with stories, and with others. instagram.com/illaturas / solmarinucci.com /illaturas.cargo.site
This event is brought to the KIN Festival with Gabriella Alvarez-Hummel, a Zurich-based cultural producer and journalist.
