Görkem Şen – Yaybahar

Görkem Şen – Yaybahar Jugend[widerstands]museum Galiläakirche, Rigaer Straße 9, 10247 Berlin Billets

Ouverture des portes:
Jugend[widerstands]museum Galiläakirche, Berlin (DE)

Galiläakirche is pleased to present a rare performance by Turkish musician, instrument inventor, and sound researcher Görkem Şen, creator of the Yaybahar — a unique acoustic instrument that produces vast, immersive soundscapes without the use of electronics, digital processing, or amplification.

Developed over more than a decade of experimentation, the Yaybahar is a patented member of Görkem Şen's self-designed "Spring Family" of instruments. Combining strings, springs, and drum membranes in an innovative mechanical system, it generates rich resonances, deep drones, and evolving harmonic textures that often resemble electronic synthesis while remaining entirely acoustic.

Born in Istanbul, Görkem Şen has spent his career exploring sound through composition, improvisation, instrument building, recording, and live performance. His work draws from extensive research into musical traditions, acoustic phenomena, and experimental instrument design. Today, he performs internationally with the instruments he has invented and composes for film, theatre, documentaries, and interdisciplinary artistic projects.
