Vocalchemy Workshop: Aurora Edition & NYX

NYX’s work is rooted in vocal embodiment, deep listening, and collective empowerment. NYX explores what it means to move and be heard — to be supported by the collective voice, and to create and belong inside our sounding bodies.

The 2,5 hours workshop combines voice and somatic movement practices, creating spaces where participants can expand listening, expression, and physical awareness. Sessions are designed for singers and non-singers of all ages. 

NYX is a collective of experimental vocalists and electronic artists, led by Composer Sian O’Gorman and Creative Producer Philippa Neels. With roots in diverse musical and creative disciplines – from opera and choral traditions to sound design, visual arts, and experimental electronics – NYX brings together a community of artists united by their commitment to exploring new sonic frontiers. Centred around care, connection, and collaboration, the collective creates immersive sonic landscapes that traverse the full spectrum of human emotion – from the depths of grief to ecstatic joy. Their work balances ritualistic intensity with playful exploration, offering audiences a transformative experience to ground themselves in the power of sound and embodiment. Drawing on influences from psychoacoustics, somatic practices, and experimental sound design, NYX operates at the intersection of composition and improvisation. 

NYX has performed at London Design Festival, the Pompidou Centre, Rewire Festival, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Roundhouse, Berlin Atonal and Dark Mofo. Their collaborative album Deep England with Gazelle Twin was named one of The Guardian’s top ten contemporary albums, and they received Film London’s Breakthrough Talent Award in 2021. Recent work includes contributions to the World of Warcraft and Diablo IV soundtracks, the opening live commission for the new V&A East Museum, and their first original television score for the BBC and Bad Wolf’s Dope Girls. For the first time in Zurich, they will perform as NYX Duo at the Drone & Ambient Festival Aurora Edition, which takes place in Alte Krematorium Sihlfeld, on 14th of November 2026.
