Es erzählt die Geschichte der Familie Goodman bestehend aus den Kindern Gabriel und Natalie, sowie den Eltern Dan und Diana. Letztere leidet an bipolarer Persönlichkeitsstörung, die das Leben der Familie wiederholt auf die Probe stellt. Bestückt mit Tragik, Tränen, aber auch Humor, schafft es das Rock Musical von Tom Kitt und Brian Yorkey ein wichtiges Augenmerk auf das Leben mit psychischen Krankheiten zu werfen.
