Gaga/people & Improvisation Workshop

The workshop starts with a 60min gaga/people class, moving into an improvisation session in which we playfully explore multidimensional relating with our dancing bodies-to space, time & sound, through a variety of scores, individually and with the group. We develop our compositional/choreographic sense and the frameworks that allow us to experience the fullness of our own dance.

sensual athletic raving

A creative somatic process on connecting with sound and spaces- inner body / interpersonal space / collective space / universal space. In a playful way we devise choreographic situations in which we explore moving through these different, layered spaces and perceptive states. 

In that framework we develop our compositional sense deriving from an understanding that in our sensory experience everything is relational-how dramatic tension lives in the principles of contrast,polarity & unity and how that allows our dancing bodies to inhabit and morph into a wide scope of expressions. 

As the process unfolds we deepen into ever renewing streams of sensation, connecting with our inner athlete, a presence of full commitment of spirit, heart and bodymind to open physical energies and the flow of our dancing on a deeper level. We enter the state of raving, a dream-like state transcending ordinary boundaries of perception and imagination, opening a field of endless possibilities and expressing the unfolding potential of each moment.

What is Gaga?

Gaga/people classes offer a framework for users to connect to their bodies and imaginations, experience physical sensations, improve their flexibility and stamina, exercise their agility and explosive power, and enjoy the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting atmosphere.

Throughout the class, participants are guided by a series of evocative instructions deployed to increase awareness of and further amplify sensation. Rather than turning from one prompt to another, information is layered, building into a multisensory, physically challenging experience. While many instructions are imbued with rich imagery, the research of Gaga is fundamentally physical, insisting on a specific process of embodiment. Inside this shared research, the improvisational nature of the exploration enables each participant’s deeply personal connection with Gaga.​

Tanja Saban

is a dancer, choreographer,certified Gaga teacher and Sensory SoulBody somatic movement coach. Born and raised in Switzerland, she graduated from the SEAD training program in 2007. She is a recipient of the conveyor scholarship from the Tanzquartier in Vienna, where she started her career as a freelance dancer and teacher. She collaborates with choreographers and artists of other disciplines on projects as well as creating her own work in Austria, Spain,Switzerland, Israel and New York City.The heart of her artistic practice is an ongoing research of the moving body-a space of experience,expression and personal expansion in the unfolding of physical intelligence and the sensory body.She is developing her work in different formats evolving around the lines of co-creative, immersive dance experiences oscillating between clubculture, performance and embodied practices.
