Shochu (焼酎) translates as ‘burnt liquor’ and is a very versatile Japanese distilled beverage. Join us for a special evening and discover the world of shochu – one of the oldest spirits in the world and a real insider tip for the coming years.
Shochu is usually referred to as ‘distilled sake’. At first glance this is somewhat correct. But in fact, shochu can be made from over 50 strictly regulated ingredients. However, it is mostly distilled from potatoes, sweet potatoes, barley or rice. A wide variety of yeast strains and koji cultures are used in its production. In addition, it is bottled in all alcohol strengths from 25% and above. It therefore never ceases to surprise us with its incredible variety of flavours!
During this event, Toru Wada, Kuma Shochu Ambassador for Switzerland, will teach us a lot about shochu in general and the high-quality, geographically protected rice shochu from Kumamoto. He is the only shochu sommelier in Europe and Konomi is very proud to be able to spread the word about shochu thanks to him!
Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to ask questions and share impressions. Konomi invites you together with Toru-san to discover the fascination of these Japanese distillates with us!
