Hyper Secretion
Hyper Secretion is a performance about the contradiction between the "perfect" bodies presented in the media and our real bodies, which many of us perceive as imperfect or even disgusting. The primary medium is video, using Barbies – which for decades have represented a seemingly perfect, white, able-bodied, thin, blonde, yet unrealistic beauty ideal – these videos reflect various perspectives on our relationship with our bodies: the disgust, the violence we inflict on them, and the desire to reassemble them differently. Through the videos, we want to find the intersection where play gives way to reality, and also explore why it is so difficult to deconstruct these images in our minds, even though we want to do things differently.
For much of the performance, the three performers remain at the edge of the stage, producing a quiet, delicate soundtrack with small keyboards, mini-synths, and a disassembled saxophone. At the tipping point, they finally step onto the stage as real bodies, as a contrast to the Barbies. The goal is a moment of solidarity: to recognise that you are not alone in this.
