Aletsch Glacier Autumn Photography Trip – 3 October 2026

Join us for an unforgettable photography workshop overlooking the Great Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This extraordinary alpine landscape combines immense glacial panoramas, ancient forests, golden autumn colours and breathtaking mountain scenery, offering one of the finest photography experiences in Switzerland.

Throughout the workshop, we will explore the spectacular viewpoints around Moosfluh together with the beautiful Aletsch Forest, home to centuries-old Swiss stone pines and golden larch trees. The striking contrast between the vibrant autumn colours and the immense glacier creates endless opportunities for both intimate woodland scenes and dramatic alpine landscapes.

Whether you are new to landscape photography or looking to refine your artistic vision, this workshop combines technical guidance with creative inspiration in one of Europe's most remarkable mountain environments.

What You'll Learn

• Fundamentals of landscape composition and visual storytelling

• Understanding mountain light and changing weather conditions

• Working with foregrounds, depth and visual balance

• Advanced techniques including:

  • Focus stacking

  • Perspective blending

  • Exposure blending

  • Time blending

• Planning landscape photography using weather and light forecasting tools

• Optimising camera settings:

  • Aperture

  • Shutter speed

  • ISO

  • Exposure compensation

• Effective use of photographic filters:

  • Polarising filters

  • Neutral Density (ND) filters

Throughout the workshop, participants receive personal guidance from an internationally awarded landscape photographer, helping them strengthen both their technical skills and artistic vision.

Option 1 – Standard Workshop

Designed for photographers wishing to enjoy a full day of photography while returning comfortably using the cable car.

Together we will photograph:

• Panoramic views of the Great Aletsch Glacier

• Dramatic alpine ridgelines

• Woodland compositions

• Foregrounds and expansive mountain landscapes

Throughout the day, participants receive individual guidance while developing stronger compositions and refining their field techniques.

Option 2 – Sunset Experience (Recommended)

For photographers wishing to capture the finest light of the day, we offer an optional sunset experience.

Since the last cable car departs before sunset, this version of the workshop begins later, allowing participants to remain fresh and fully enjoy the evening photography session.

12:15 PM – 05:30 PM – Exploring Moosfluh & the Aletsch Forest

During the afternoon we will explore the area's most spectacular viewpoints while preparing compositions for the golden hour.

19:00 PM – Enjoy a sunset photography session overlooking the Great Aletsch Glacier before returning to Riederalp on foot via a scenic mountain trail. The walk takes approximately one hour.

8:00 PM – Workshop Conclusion & Departure

As the evening light gradually illuminates the glacier and surrounding peaks, we will photograph one of Switzerland's most spectacular alpine landscapes while exploring both grand panoramic scenes and intimate compositions featuring the autumn forest.

Return to Riederalp

Please note that the last cable car from Moosfluh normally departs at approximately 4:30 PM.

Participants choosing the Sunset Experience will therefore return to Riederalp on foot after sunset via a well-maintained mountain trail.

The walk takes approximately one hour, is not technically difficult, and offers beautiful alpine scenery along the way. The workshop leader will accompany the group throughout the descent, ensuring a safe and enjoyable conclusion to the day.

By Car (Recommended)

Travelling by car offers the greatest flexibility and is the recommended option for participants joining the Sunset Experience.

By Public Transport

The meeting point in Riederalp is easily accessible from all major Swiss cities.

From Zurich

• Train from Zurich HB to Visp

• Regional train from Visp to Mörel

• Cable car from Mörel to Riederalp

From Lausanne

• Train from Lausanne to Visp

• Regional train from Visp to Mörel

• Cable car from Mörel to Riederalp

Detailed meeting instructions and recommended train connections will be sent to all participants before the workshop.

Participants choosing the Standard Workshop can comfortably return using the last cable car from Moosfluh.

Participants joining the Sunset Experience will descend on foot to Riederalp before continuing their journey by cable car to Mörel, where regular evening train connections are available towards Zurich, Lausanne, and other major Swiss destinations.
