Niederhorn Winter Photography Workshop – 19 December 2026
Join us for an unforgettable photography workshop in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, where breathtaking mountain panoramas meet enchanting winter forests. This full-day experience takes place on Niederhorn, offering a unique opportunity to photograph snow-covered landscapes, magical alpine woodlands and spectacular panoramic views over Lake Thun and the famous peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The day begins with the scenic cable car journey from Beatenberg to the middle station, where we leave the busy viewpoints behind and enter a peaceful winter landscape. Equipped with snowshoes, we will hike through snow-covered forests and quiet alpine trails, discovering intimate woodland scenes, frozen details and dramatic mountain vistas along the way.
As we gradually reach the summit of Niederhorn, the landscape opens to reveal one of the finest panoramic viewpoints in the Bernese Alps. Following a well-deserved break at the mountain restaurant, we will continue photographing the surrounding scenery before descending by cable car to Beatenberg shortly before sunset, capturing the beautiful winter light throughout the afternoon.

What to Bring
Participants should wear warm winter clothing suitable for alpine conditions, including waterproof hiking boots, gloves, a hat and multiple insulating layers.
Snowshoes are required for the hike between the middle station and the summit. Participants may bring their own equipment or rent snowshoes locally before the workshop.
A backpack, tripod, spare batteries (which discharge more quickly in cold temperatures), lens cloths and sufficient water are also recommended to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable photography experience.

10:15 AM – 1:00 PM – Snowshoe Hike & Forest Photography
We begin our journey at the middle station before hiking through the magical snow-covered forests of Niederhorn. Along the trail we will photograph frosted trees, untouched snow, woodland details and atmospheric winter landscapes while learning how to work with soft winter light and natural compositions.
1:00 – 1:45 PM – Lunch Break
A well-deserved lunch at the Niederhorn mountain restaurant overlooking the spectacular Bernese Alps.
1:45 – 3:45 PM – Summit Photography Session
After lunch we continue exploring the panoramic viewpoints surrounding the summit, photographing sweeping views across Lake Thun, the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and the surrounding alpine peaks. Participants will learn how to create balanced panoramic compositions while making the most of the changing afternoon light.
3:45 – 4:25 PM – Final Photography Session
Before descending, we dedicate the final part of the afternoon to photographing the beautiful winter atmosphere surrounding the summit as the light softens before sunset.
4:25 PM – Return by Cable Car
We descend comfortably to Beatenberg on the final afternoon cable car, arriving approximately thirty minutes before sunset.
Approximately 5:00 PM – End of Workshop
The workshop concludes at the valley station, allowing participants to continue their journey or remain in the area to enjoy the final colours of the day.

Travel Information
By Public Transport (Recommended)
Travelling by public transport is highly recommended, as Beatenberg is easily accessible from all major Swiss cities.
From Lausanne: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, with train connections to Interlaken West followed by a bus to Beatenberg.
From Zurich: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, with train connections via Bern and Interlaken West.
From Geneva: approximately 3 hours 15 minutes, with train connections via Bern and Interlaken West.
The workshop concludes in time for convenient evening public transport connections towards Interlaken, Bern, Lausanne, Zurich and Geneva.
Detailed meeting instructions and recommended train connections will be provided after registration.
By Car
Participants travelling by car will find public parking available at the Niederhornbahn valley station in Beatenberg. Driving is also a convenient option for those wishing to explore the Bernese Oberland before or after the workshop.
Parking fees, cable car tickets and snowshoe rental are not included in the workshop price.
