THE BASICS:
Ecstatic Dance is a global movement practice (it happens in over 100 countries!) where people gather to dance freely without choreography, performance, or judgment. It's been described as "meditation through movement" or "therapy without talking."
THE STRUCTURE:
- Opening Circle (5-10 min): Everyone gathers, we set intentions, explain the guidelines, and connect as a group
- The Dance Journey (90 min): DJ plays a carefully curated arc of music that guides you through waves of energy
- Closing (5-10 min): We come back together, often in a sharing circle or just quiet connection
THE MUSIC JOURNEY:
The DJ takes you through phases:
- Awakening - Gentle, organic sounds to warm up
- Exploration - Building energy, finding your rhythm
- Release - High-energy tribal/electronic beats where you let go
- Ecstatic feel - Pure joy, peak experience, full expression
- Integration - Slow descent back to earth, peaceful closure

These aren't rules to restrict you—they create a container where you feel safe to be completely authentic.
WHAT IT FEELS LIKE:
- Physically: It's a full-body workout. You'll sweat. You'll stretch in ways you don't normally. You'll feel muscles you forgot existed. But it doesn't feel like "exercise"—it feels like play, like freedom.
- Emotionally: This is where it gets interesting. The movement bypasses your thinking mind and accesses emotions stored in your body. You might feel joy, grief, anger, ecstasy—sometimes all in one session. It's cathartic in the best way.
- Energetically: People describe feeling "lighter," "clearer," "buzzing with energy," "like something shifted." The combination of movement, music, and intention creates this palpable shift in how you feel.
- Spiritually: Some people have profound experiences—feeling connected to something larger, accessing altered states of consciousness, experiencing what some call "flow state".
WHO DOES THIS?
Literally everyone. I've seen:
- 25-year-old tech workers next to 60-year-old retirees
- Professional dancers next to people who "can't dance"
- Introverts and extroverts
- Fit athletes and people with limited mobility
- Spiritual seekers and skeptical scientists
The only requirement is curiosity and willingness to try something different.
WHAT MAKES MOKOA SPECIAL:
Sacred Cacao Ceremony - We start with ceremonial chocolate (not regular chocolate!) that gently opens your heart and enhances emotional awareness
DJ Vargass - Not just any DJ, but someone who understands how sound affects the nervous system and creates intentional journeys
Vocal Guidance - I guide with my voice throughout, offering invitations, encouragement, and reminders that you're safe
Intimate Setting - We keep numbers limited so it feels personal, not overwhelming

COMMON QUESTIONS:
- "But I can't dance..."
Perfect! That's actually ideal. There's nothing to learn. Your body already knows how to move—we've just forgotten how to listen to it.
- "What if I feel awkward?"
You will for about 10 minutes. Everyone does. Then you'll notice everyone has their eyes closed, doing their own thing, and you'll realize no one is watching you. The self-consciousness melts.
- "What if I don't 'feel' anything?"
Even if you don't have a profound emotional experience, you'll still get an amazing workout, release stress, and probably sleep better that night. But most people are surprised by how much they DO feel once they give themselves permission.
- "Do I have to dance WITH people?"
Nope! Most people dance in their own space. Occasionally there might be moments of playful connection if you want, but it's always consensual and optional.
WHY I LOVE IT:
Honestly? Because in our heads-down, screen-obsessed, overthinking world, this is one of the few places where I get to just BE in my body without judgment. Where I can release whatever I'm holding without having to explain it. Where I can feel truly alive and free.
After a session, I feel like I've had therapy, a workout, and a spiritual experience all in one. Plus the community is incredible—people who value authenticity, presence, and growth.
