Terranova welcomes Valeria Vescina for a reading from That Summer in Puglia. Originally launched in 2018 at the prestigious FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival, the novel had three print runs and has just been issued in a second edition. We’re celebrating with this conversation between the author and Monica Tiffany.
About the book
Tommaso has escaped discovery for thirty years – but a young private investigator, Will, has tracked him down in London. Tommaso asks him to pretend never to have found him. To persuade Will, he recounts the story of his life and his great love, Anna. In the process, he comes to recognise his true role in the events that unfolded long ago in Puglia, and the legacy of unresolved grief. Now he’s being presented with a second chance – but is he ready to pay the price?
About the author
Valeria Vescina is from Puglia, has lived in England most of her life, and is now based in Switzerland. She retains strong links with her native region, which provided the setting for both That Summer in Puglia and her forthcoming Habit of Disobedience. A graduate of the Goldsmiths Creative & Life Writing MA, she teaches creative writing and is a literary reviewer.

Monica Tiffany PhD is a lecturer in Literature and Philosophy. She studied at the University of Zurich with Prof. Peter von Matt (Literature). Her dissertation was on Immanuel Kant’s Aesthetic Theory (Philosophy). Originally from Switzerland, Monica lived and taught abroad for years.
