An initiation to the unique modernity of Tokyo's urban architecture. Sometime born of a functional need rather than aesthetic ideal, the city forces hybrid combinations that generate authentic appearance or uncommon typology that goes beyond our imagination. From a hyper urban living machine to a nomadic stall izakaya or from a shiny Karaoke tower to a tiny 2sqm shrine, Tokyo is full of unexpected architecture. The event consists of discovering/understanding its logic with tasting Tsumami and by a presentation held by Toru Wada, Japanese architect based in Basel.
Toru Wada. Born in Tokyo and raised in Switzerland. After graduating from the Department of Architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in 2011, he worked at a major architectural firm in Basel, Switzerland for eight years.
In 2019, he founded the first-class architectural firm "Atelier Toruwada".
Based in Switzerland, he makes full use of his experience living in a multilingual culture and explores new forms of architecture that transcend national and field boundaries with the concept of "architecture x language".
