Die Vermittlung von Geschichte und «Wahrheit» treibt Basma al-Sharif in vielen ihrer Filme um. Aus der Darstellung der Vergangenheit ergibt sich die Frage nach der Zukunft, aber auch nach den Möglichkeiten, Grenzen und dem Scheitern dieser Darstellung, verdeutlicht an der Diskrepanz zwischen persönlichen Geschichten und globalen Narrativen. Zugleich tritt die Relevanz des Erbes von Geopolitik, Kolonialismus und Faschismus in der Gegenwart zutage.

In many of her films, Basma al-Sharif is concerned with conveying history and "truth". The representation of the past raises questions about the future, but also about the possibilities, limits and failures of this representation, illustrated by the discrepancy between personal stories and global narratives. At the same time, the relevance of the legacy of geopolitics, colonialism and fascism in the present comes to light.
