Martin, a down-on-his-luck cobbler, suspects his wife of infidelity and locks her inside the house while he goes out. Undaunted, his wife conspires through the keyhole with the village priest to trick her gullible husband so that the pair can have an amorous tryst. Persuaded by her plan, the priest disguises himself as a devil. When Martin returns home, his wife goads him into cursing her "to hell"--and the devil himself shows up to carry her off!
When the wife comes back "from hell," she has many tales to tell to a repentant Martin… and gets the key to the household, if not his heart!
