ESN Luzern City Trip – Alpabzug Entlebuch
Every year towards the end of September, the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve is transformed into a colorful spectacle rich in traditions, customs, and entertainment. Seven Alpine farming families, dressed in traditional costumes and carrying Chüjer (wooden baskets), guide more than 300 cows and cattle from their Alpine huts around Sörenberg down to Schüpfheim.
They are accompanied by colorful folklore groups, creating a magnificent procession through the village – the highlight of the Entlebuch Alpine Descent. With regularly more than 10,000 visitors, this Alpine tradition has grown into a true folk festival.
