100 years of the University of Basel Pharmacy Museum

In the 19th century, industrialisation and technical progress meant that medicines were increasingly produced in factories. As a result, pharmacy evolved from a craft to a science. Documenting this development was one of the many reasons why pharmacist Josef Anton Häfliger began collecting historical pharmaceutical artefacts in the 1920s. His work laid the foundation for today’s Pharmacy Museum.
