based on the poem of the same name by Taras Shevchenko.
In the poem "Maria", the outstanding Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko presents the New Testament legend about the Virgin Mary, but gives her image a somewhat new content. The image of Mary is symbolically generalized - it personifies the source of goodness that changes the world. Mary, an eternal symbol of love, piety and faith, holiness and purity, raised her son to be a true fighter for the rights of people, for the truth, a defender of the oppressed. She went to the struggle with him, supporting her son. With him, Mary reached Golgotha. And even when she saw her son crucified on the cross, she did not give in to grief - she gathered her son's disciples and they "spread love and truth throughout the world".
