The Irish modernist James Joyce and the eighteenth-century writer Daniel Defoe: an unlikely pairing, at first sight. And yet, Joyce was fascinated by the Englishman's oeuvre, especially his widely influential novel Robinson Crusoe. This talk will not only document the various ways in which Joyce engaged with Defoe's work, but also propose why Joyce deemed it imperative to grapple with Defoe's complex legacy. In this talk, Martin Mühlheim (Zurich James Joyce Foundation) will provide interesting and entertaining insights into the literary connections between James Joyce and Robinson Crusoe.

Talk in English.
Entrance to the museum and the talk is free of charge.
No registration required.
The museum and museum bar will be open from 6 to 8.30 p.m.
