Ein Feuer. Eine Nacht. Ein ganzer Kosmos dahinter.

Sie tragen brennendes Holz durch die Liestaler Altstadt, manche seit Jahrzehnten, andere zum ersten Mal. Was bringt Menschen dazu, monatelang für eine einzige Nacht zu arbeiten, die dann in Flammen aufgeht?

Der Film sucht die Antwort dort, wo sonst niemand hinschaut: im Wald beim Holzschlag, in den Werkstätten, in den Gesichtern kurz vor dem Anzünden und in der Asche am Morgen danach. Ein Film über Handwerk, Herzblut und darüber, was eine Gemeinschaft zusammenhält.

Der Chienbäse zieht jedes Jahr am Sonntag nach der Liestaler Fasnacht durch die Altstadt und steht seit 2012 auf der Liste der lebendigen Traditionen der Schweiz.

Dokumentarfilm, 93 Minuten, Schweizerdeutsch. Der Regisseur ist an den Vorstellungen in der Regel anwesend.
