A musical journey across classical and contemporary soundscapes — from the lyrical clarity of solo piano, to the vibrant dialogue of marimba and piano, and finally, the resonant voice of the marimba alone.

Biography

Ernestina Leung is a marimbist originally from Hong Kong. She studied marimba performance at LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, Belgium, and at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Poland. Deeply inspired by her mentors Ludwig Albert, Jacek Wota, and Shoko Sakai, she discovered the unique expressive possibilities of the marimba, which has since become her main artistic voice.

In recent years, Ernestina has been developing a personal approach to marimba performance that bridges storytelling, visual elements, and sound. Her project Marimba Romance was well received in Hong Kong and at the Lilu Light Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland.

In 2025, her marimba adaptation of The Four Seasons in Zurich was met with an enthusiastic response, establishing her distinctive narrative approach to marimba performance and inspiring new artistic dialogues.

She has performed internationally in venues including UNESCO headquarters in Paris, and across Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Hong Kong. Ernestina has also received recognition in various competitions, including second prize at the 10th International Music and Arts Festival Competition in Saint Petersburg, and first prize at the 8th Saint Petersburg Music Student Competition.

In 2026, Ernestina will continue to develop new projects in both Switzerland and Hong Kong, exploring ways to further expand the expressive language of the marimba through cross-disciplinary collaborations and narrative-based performances.

Hsin-Jo is a passionate and versatile Taiwanese musician, proficient as a pianist, violinist, and organist. She is currently pursuing a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in Church Music, specializing in organ, at the Zürich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Switzerland. Her academic journey is built on a strong foundation in performance, having completed both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree at ZHdK (Major in piano, Minor in Violin). Throughout her studies, Hsin-Jo has participated in numerous prestigious competitions, achieving significant recognition, including advancing to the qualification rounds of the 2015 Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, reaching the semifinals of the 2019 Piano Campus International Piano Competition, and earning second prize at the 2020 Ming Klassiker International Online Music Competition.

*A small apéro will be offered after the concert.
