about the workshop

this 2-hour workshop is designed for all bodies, whether dancers or non-dancers. the session is structured in four parts:

  1. warm-up (30 minutes)
the workshop begins with a 30-minute warm-up, preparing the body for movement through simple, grounding exercises that activate and energize the body, fostering a state of awareness and connection to the self.
  2. movement practice (30 minutes)
participants will then engage in a movement practice, exploring gestures and movements inspired by desire, urgency, or suppression. the focus will be on discovering what is liberated through the body, using rhythm, repetition, acceleration, and subtle transformation of the movement.
  3. personal soundtrack practice (4 x 7 minutes)
following the movement exploration, we will practice emancipation through 4 intervals of 7 minutes. each interval will consist of the following:
    ◦ listening to music: participants will listen to their chosen personal soundtrack through headphones. (we will take time for them to find one).
    ◦ movement selection: they will select movements they have explored in the previous section, repeating them, building intensity, accelerating, and eventually finding a peak before slowing down.
    ◦ this part will allow participants to refine and deepen their embodied expression of emancipation, using sound and repetition to guide their process. there might be a common time to dance with all the musics heard
out loud if this works for the group and time wise.
  4. storytelling circle (30 minutes)
to close the workshop, we will gather in a circle to share personal stories of emancipation, reflecting on how movement and sound helped embody freedom and liberation. this sharing grounds the practice in lived experiences and encourages collective reflection.

required materials: please bring your phones and headphones.
duration: 2 hours
no prior dance experience required

location: Grube[n], grubenstrasse 39, 8045 zürich

about the artist

eleni mylona is a dance artist who has been living in zurich for the last 15 years. her work explores the synthesis of language and movement, with an emphasis on the relationship between language and imagination. through an interdisciplinary approach, she explores how movement, writing and dialogue can create intimate spaces of coexistence. In recent years, she has focused on collective experience, developing methods for reading, writing, sharing, moving and imagining together.
her performances often emerge from artistic research or unfold in public spaces, taking shape in festivals, theatres and research centres in athens, thessaloniki, zurich, basel, berlin and london. she has collaborated with institutions such as Tanzhaus Zurich, Fabriktheater, Maxim Theater, MerumAtelier, Chania Dance Days, Elefsina European Capital of Culture 2023 and Ticino in Danza Festival, among others, and this year she has been invited to take part in the choreo lab of TanzPlanOst.
since 2007, she has been creating and co-creating long-term artistic processes that interweave dance, writing and dialogue, treating them as means of synthesis and research. since 2023, she is choreographer and coordinator of KATINES zurich, a dance community and a space to gather, that carries a feminist ethos. she is also a member of Bona Dance, a community of movement practitioner teachers, and was recently invited to join X-group, a long-term research collective exploring instant composition as performance in zurich. she holds a master's degree in theatrical practices (artistic research) from Artez University of the Arts and trained at the State School of Dance in greece (K.S.O.T.) and the Leonidas de Pian School, obtaining a diploma as a dance teacher from the Morianova-Trassa Higher Professional School. she has collaborated as a performer and/or been invited to participate in research projects with vera mantero, juan dominguez, danae theodoridou, ana sanchez and others.
born and raised in athens, she is always looking for ways to sustain and cultivate her practice beyond the gravitational pull of large institutions.
