What is it about?
You will make a fan bird from a single block of wood. You start by shaping the feathers for the wings. For this you use chisel, knife and gouge. Then you cut the feathers loose with a special knife, a splitting knife. If this is successful, you saw the bird out of the wood and then use a chisel and knife to give the bird its shape. Finally, the magic comes to life when you move the feathers into the position of wings, because suddenly you are holding a bird in your hands!
Your workshop instructor
Sandra Witteman is a former goldsmith from the Netherlands who has found her passion in wood sculpting and she does it with her own special touch. She is on tour this summer and will be stopping in Walchwil with her mobile workshop, so don't miss it!
Practical info :
This is a day workshop including coffee/tea during the day and soup with your lunch.
