Cacao’s Journey
A valid Schoggifestival admission ticket is required to participate in Schoggifestival events. Children up to and including the age of 12 do not pay admission to the festival. Paid events must be booked separately for children and adults.
In his talk, Swiss-based photographer Tamer Tamar will present cacao’s visual journey from South America to farms in São Tomé & Principe and the Philippines. He highlights that while an estimated 4.8 million tons were produced in 2025 through heavy manual labor, many farmers struggle daily with diseases as well as economic and environmental factors .The images reveal the contrast between the challenges of cacao cultivation in the South and chocolate consumption in the North.
Subsequently, Evelyn from the Good Chocolate Hub will share about their project in Borneo, Indonesia: Conntecting sustainable cacao production with orangutan conservation. Together will Tamer Tamer the team will travel to East Borneo in June to learn about the realities of cacao and cacao-growing communities and trying to turn challenges in sustainale solutions.
