Raising a Multilingual Child: what to expect and practical guidance to support language development

Workshop Description:

Growing up with more than one language is a wonderful gift, and it can also raise many questions for parents. Is it normal for multilingual children to speak later? Should I use my home language, or focus only on the school language? How many languages are “too many”?

This workshop offers parents and caregivers a clear overview of how children learn multiple languages and what to expect along the way. Together, we will address common myths and concerns about multilingual language development and provide practical guidance to support your child’s learning at home and in school.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understand what is typical for children learning more than one language.
  • Learn how to support your child’s mother tongue while encouraging new languages.

  • Explore strategies for when your child prefers speaking one language over another.

  • Gain clarity on common concerns, including when to introduce new languages and how many are realistic.

  • Build confidence in supporting your child’s academic and home language development.

This workshop is ideal for parents and caregivers who want to nurture their child’s multilingual journey with
