Odissi is India’s oldest (2nd B.C.E) dance-drama genre of performance art, where the artists and musicians play out a story, a spiritual message or devotional poem from the Hindu texts, using symbolic costumes, body movement, Abhinaya (expressions), and Mudras (gestures and sign language) set out in ancient Sanskrit literature.

Madhur Gupta Dance Company & Sangeet Vidya Niketan bring to you the elegance and sheer lyricism of Odissi dance, one of the oldest classical dance styles of India. Samavay is a Sanskrit word that literally translates to a confluence of ideas, ethos, and spiritual philosophies.
The company shall take the audiences on a journey of divine grace, of Indian gods and goddesses, of Eastern mythological characters, and end with moksha; which is the ultimate liberation from the cycle of birth.
The production will be featuring the principal dancer Madhur Gupta along with his disciples, Rethuga Jeevakanthan, a celebrated Bharatanaynam exponent in her own right, and Yshvardha Kumar, a talented young dancer and choreographer from India.
