The music of OSOMO creates spaces of pause, retreat and contemplation. Moving away from the fast-paced outside world towards the inside world. OSOMO counters our hectic zeitgeist with an invitation to a journey. Conceived as «transportive music», it forms a sonic environment in which listeners can enter, move and stay in their own thoughts, feelings and physical sensations. It is a journey that leads to different places for each person. The OSOMO live sets, the Horizontal Concerts offer a musical and physical space for being, for lying down, for dreaming, for sleeping – from letting go to the most concentrated, deepest listening. OSOMO is music that embraces you, simultaneously carries you away, and offers an experience that is both mysterious and challenging: «What happens to us when we are touched by music – whether in our bodies or our minds – remains mysterious. I have always been in search of that moment when music can change the way you feel.» 

OSOMO is the solo project of musician Simon Baumann (drummer in the band of Stephan Eicher, collaborations with Colin Vallon, Mario Batkovic, Don Li and others). He will release his debut album Side Trips on the label Two Gentlemen on 5 May 2023. Baumann picks up on our hectic zeitgeist in the form of acoustic pulses – «My instrument is rhythm,» he says. Waves of sounds are arranged from one sequence to the next. The textures are mostly electronic, with interludes of trombone, vibraphone, old drums, and samples of speech. The waves articulate themselves in different dynamics: they advance, they flow back and forth, they interpenetrate. When they break, they are slow or fast, but always powerful. Sequences of melody alternate with resting spheres.
